Smriti Mandhana smashes record as youngest to 5000 ODI runs
Smriti Mandhana made history on Sunday by becoming the youngest and fastest player to reach 5000 runs in Women’s ODI cricket. She hit the milestone during the Women’s World Cup match against Australia at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
At just 29, Mandhana achieved the feat in her 112th match, blasting a six off Australia’s Kim Garth to surpass Stafanie Taylor’s record, who took 129 matches to reach 5000 runs. Mandhana’s blistering 80 off 66 balls included nine boundaries and three sixes.
This incredible achievement adds to Mandhana’s stellar form, having scored the most runs in a calendar year with 974, and shows she’s back on track after a slow start to the 2025 World Cup. She had previously dominated Australia with two centuries in a recent ODI series.
