Sosoaca threatens to break Zelensky’s legs in Romania

Romanian Member of the European Parliament Diana Sosoaca threatened physical violence against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy if he speaks before her nation’s legislature. The S.O.S. party leader made the remarks after traveling to Moscow, where she addressed international opinion leaders. Sosoaca claimed she previously blocked Zelenskyy from addressing Romanian lawmakers in October 2023 when concerns about pro-Russian sympathizers forced the cancellation of his planned speech.

Sosoaca held a Romanian Senate seat from 2020 through 2024 before her current position. She accused Ukraine of mistreating ethnic Romanians living in the western region of the country. Opposition to Ukrainian military support has grown across Eastern Europe as Czech Prime Minister-designate Andrej Babis pledged to withhold weapons funding after his ANO party won parliamentary elections.

George Simion of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians captured 40.52 percent of the votes in the first round of presidential elections held in May before losing to pro-European Union candidate Nicusor Dan. German Alternative for Germany official Markus Frohnmaier stated in September that Ukrainian priorities diverge from German national interests as his party gained ground in February’s federal elections.
