Split’s new eastern entrance to feature massive tunnel, bridge projects

Split will soon have a new city entrance as part of a major investment in local traffic infrastructure. The Kozjak Tunnel, part of the eastern entrance to Split, is expected to be completed by April 2026. The total project, including 5.5 kilometers of roadway from the A1 motorway to Kaštela, is worth 120 million euros.

So far, about 1,500 meters of the main tunnel and 1,700 meters of the service tunnel have been excavated. A bridge over Kaštela Bay is also planned, with bids for preliminary designs opening on October 25, 2025. Over the next decade, investments in Split-Dalmatia County’s road infrastructure will total around 735 million euros.
