Tan Sri Shamsuddin seeks court confirmation of 14.8 million shares gift to sons
Tan Sri Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir, the founder of Sapura Holdings Sdn Bhd, has filed an application with the Syariah High Court to confirm a gift (hibah) of 14.8 million company shares given to his two sons in 1997. The application, filed on September 2, names his eldest son, Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin, and second son, Datuk Shahriman Shamsuddin, as the defendants.
The application for confirmation follows a separate petition by Shamsuddin to revoke the hibah granted to Shahril, who is contesting the revocation. Shamsuddin, 94, seeks the court’s confirmation that he legally gifted the shares to his sons, claiming all necessary Syariah requirements were met when the gift was made in 1997.
Shamsuddin is also seeking the court’s approval of his petition to cancel the hibah for Shahril, which he declared in a written statement earlier this year. Today’s proceedings included representation by Syarie counsel for Shamsuddin and his sons’ legal teams. The case management has been set for November 18.
