Telangana scraps two-child norm for local body elections

The Telangana government announced the scrapping of the two-child norm for contesting local body elections. This decision was made during a State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The government received multiple requests to remove the rule, as population control is already being strictly managed in the state.

The Cabinet also decided to expedite the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion and form a high-level committee to assess the feasibility of taking over the first phase of the Metro from L&T. Additionally, the government is committed to procuring all paddy cultivated during the monsoon season, despite financial challenges, and will deposit a Rs. 500 per quintal bonus for fine paddy varieties.

Other decisions include setting up three new agriculture colleges in the state, increasing the seat quota for locals at NALSAR University, and approving road construction projects worth Rs. 10,547 crore. The Cabinet also agreed to bear the cost of land acquisition for the Krishna-Vikarabad railway line and the Mannanoor-Srisailam elevated corridor.
