Tensions rise near Rajshahi University as BNP and Jamaat clash over elections
The election at Rajshahi University has gone well, but tensions may rise as BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami groups have gathered near the campus and around the city.
As of the latest report, no issues have been reported, though political activity is increasing.
Rabiul Islam Rabi, a BNP member, said they came to the area because they saw Jamaat supporters gathering. He hoped the election would be peaceful like in Rajshahi, which he called a friendly city.
Al Amin, a Jamaat supporter, said they had not seen a fair election here in years. He believed there would be no trouble and that people’s political groups were not obvious from their appearance.
