Canadian envoy meets Jamaat Ameer ahead of Bangladesh election

Ajit Singh, Canada’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met Jamaat-e-Islami leader Shafiqur Rahman in Dhaka on Thursday.

They talked about Bangladesh’s upcoming national election, calling it an important event for the country’s democracy. Rahman asked for Canada’s help in making sure the election is free and fair.

They also discussed ways to improve democracy and strengthen institutions in Bangladesh. Both sides hoped for more trade and cooperation between Bangladesh and Canada in the future.

Other Jamaat leaders, along with Canadian officials, attended the meeting. Earlier in the week, ambassadors from Norway, Denmark, and Germany also met Rahman to talk about similar issues.
