Trinidad’s CAL spends $60M on audits, no results

Trinidad and Tobago’s Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo dropped a bombshell: Caribbean Airlines has wasted over TT$60 million on audits and has not submitted a single audited financial statement in nearly a decade! Despite this financial black hole, the former finance minister, Colm Imbert, kept approving funding for CAL year after year, blind to the airline’s growing mess. Tancoo slammed Imbert for fueling the airline’s downfall, accusing him of “criminal negligence” for signing off on billions without demanding accountability.

The fallout? CAL’s CEO Garvin Medera resigned out of nowhere, leaving COO Nirmala Ramai to steer the ship. CAL’s board insists everything’s “business as usual” while promising to fix their disastrous operations with fresh audits, better efficiency, and a sustainable growth plan.
