Trump authorizes CIA operations in Venezuela to target Maduro
US President Donald Trump confirmed that he has approved CIA operations in Venezuela. Trump said the decision was made for two reasons: Venezuela’s release of prisoners into the US and the drug trade, particularly the large amount of drugs coming through the sea. He did not confirm whether the CIA is authorized to kill President Maduro.
Trump previously imposed sanctions on Venezuela and raised the reward for information on Maduro to $50 million. The US has sent a naval fleet to the Caribbean and destroyed several boats suspected of smuggling drugs from Venezuela. Maduro denies the accusations and claims the military is prepared for any US action.
