Trump warns Hamas over hostages in Gaza ceasefire

President Donald Trump threatened Hamas with consequences on Saturday if the group fails to return the bodies of deceased hostages held in Gaza. The warning came before Trump met with Qatari leaders who helped negotiate the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas earlier this month. Hamas has released 20 living captives and 15 sets of remains, but still holds 13 bodies.

Trump posted on Truth Social that Hamas must quickly deliver the deceased hostages or face action from countries supporting the peace agreement. He stated some remains appear ready for transfer and gave the militant organization 48 hours to act. Two Americans remain among those whose bodies have not been returned under terms requiring Hamas to release all captives in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya told Al Jazeera that teams would search previously unreachable areas of Gaza for the missing bodies. Egyptian vehicles carrying excavation equipment entered Khan Yunis overnight to assist recovery efforts with Israeli permission. Thousands of Israelis demonstrated on Saturday night, demanding Hamas return all remaining deceased captives as Israeli forces search areas under their control.
