US lawmakers push Trump to attend Quad Summit in India

A group of US lawmakers has asked President Donald Trump to attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit in India and other key meetings in Asia. Led by Representative Gregory W. Meeks, the group believes Trump’s presence at these summits is crucial to show US leadership and counter China’s growing influence.

The lawmakers emphasized the importance of the Quad partnership with Australia, Japan, and India for advancing US interests in the Indo-Pacific. They also urged Trump to continue his leadership in the region, especially after an amendment by Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove.

The letter stressed that the US should reaffirm its commitment to a free Indo-Pacific by participating in these summits. It also came after a previous letter from 19 lawmakers calling for a reset in the India-US relationship.
