Vinicius storms off after Alonso sub decision

Vinicius Jr walked directly to the locker room after Real Madrid substituted him in the 71st minute of their 2-1 victory against Barcelona on Sunday, visibly upset with manager Xabi Alonso’s decision. The Brazilian winger had dominated Barcelona defender Jules Kounde and provided the cross that led to Jude Bellingham’s winning goal before Rodrygo replaced him.

The substitution highlighted tensions between Vinicius and Alonso, who have regularly removed the forward from matches this season despite improved team chemistry. Alonso became manager in May and has worked to balance the talents of Vinicius and Kylian Mbappe after their difficulties together last season.

Vinicius was aggressive throughout the match, energizing the crowd and repeatedly beating Kounde. He delivered the 42nd-minute cross that Eder Militao headed across for Bellingham to score, then nearly created another goal moments later before Mbappe was ruled offside.

The winger returned to the field before the final whistle when a brawl erupted after Pedri’s red card. Staff members had to guide him away as he confronted Barcelona players.
