Vumbunu sisters face armed robbery charges in Bulawayo
Three women linked to the Vumbunu crime family appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate on Monday to face armed robbery charges for a theft worth $25,840. Sekai Vumbunu, Georgina Vumbunu, and Florence Chisiri were remanded in custody until Oct. 31 after Magistrate Archie Wochiwunga denied bail. Prosecutors say the women provided intelligence to gunmen who robbed a victim on Oct. 12 at Mossel House.
Police arrested suspects Nekimiya Dladla and Simon Dube after the pair allegedly stole cash and wedding rings from an apartment while threatening the occupant. The accused women operated as foreign currency dealers, and Sekai used the alias Edith Dube to hide her identity. Detectives linked the suspects to robberies at Nkolozi Investments and a restaurant on Fife Street.
The arrests revived attention on the Vumbunu family after brothers Elijah and Abraham faced charges for a $4 million Ecobank heist in October 2024. South African authorities detained the brothers following a joint police operation, and extradition proceedings continue.
