Witness recalls finding Zara Qairina unconscious in hostel drainage
A senior student testified at the Coroner’s Court about Zara Qairina Mahathir’s death. She explained that she woke up at 3:00 am every day to do laundry and avoid waiting for the washing machine. On the morning of July 16, she heard a sound but was not sure what it was. When she went downstairs to use the washing machine, she saw Zara Qairina unconscious by a drain and could not wake her. She immediately went to seek help from the hostel security guard.
The witness also said she did not know Zara personally and had never spoken to her. She added that senior students often reprimanded juniors, sometimes using harsh language. The inquest will continue on October 21.
