Zimbabwe police vow to arrest drivers with illegal blue lights
An ongoing crackdown on illegally-fitted vehicle gadgets in Zimbabwe just got another public warning, with police making it crystal clear who gets to rock blue lights.
ZRP’s operation against illegal vehicle fittings
- The Zimbabwe Republic Police are targeting plateless and illegally-fitted vehicles.
- Bar lights, beacon lights, and sirens are the main focus.
- Commissioner Paul Nyathi issued a fresh reminder on Friday.
- Arrest and vehicle impoundment await anyone caught violating rules.
Who actually gets to use beacon lights
- Red beacon lights belong exclusively to ambulances and fire engines.
- Blue beacons are reserved for the Praesidium and police only.
- Private or company vehicles are strictly banned from using them.
- Illegal lights get physically removed on top of the arrest.
Hunting vehicles get a carve-out
- Spotlights and strobe lights for hunting purposes are exempt.
- Owners need proper hunting documentation to qualify, though.
- ZRP stressed this exception applies only to dedicated hunting vehicles.
- Motorists were urged to observe all road rules nationwide.
