12 civilians killed in fresh Afghanistan-Pakistan border clashes
Fresh fighting between Afghan and Pakistani forces on Wednesday killed more than 12 civilians, according to the Taliban. The violence erupted after Pakistan demanded that the Afghan Taliban act against militants launching attacks from Afghanistan. The Taliban denies the presence of such militants. Afghan spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that the Taliban killed many Pakistani soldiers, captured their posts, and destroyed their military facilities. Pakistani officials blamed the Taliban for the clashes, reporting four civilian injuries on their side. The fighting, which lasted five hours, follows the worst violence between the two countries since the Taliban took control of Kabul in 2021.
