16 dead, workers sickened as Dhaka chemical warehouse fire spreads to garment factory

A fire at a chemical warehouse in Dhaka’s Rupnagar area killed at least 16 people and caused widespread illness due to toxic fumes. The blaze, which started on Tuesday, spread to a nearby garment factory, where workers fell sick from inhaling the fumes. Firefighters managed to control the fire but continued to battle the smoke on Wednesday. Several workers from nearby factories, including K-Tex Industries, were sent home after feeling unwell. The fire service reported that at least 16 bodies were recovered from a garment factory, with many victims likely suffocating from the toxic smoke. Some survivors were hospitalized for burns and injuries.
