309 Bangladeshis fly home from Libya
Libya returned 309 Bangladeshi workers to their homeland on Friday morning after they requested assistance from diplomatic officials. The chartered aircraft touched down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 9:30 am. Bangladesh Ambassador Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar and embassy staff bid farewell to the departing group at the mission compound in Tripoli.
This represents the second government-arranged flight for distressed workers, following a similar operation on October 9 that transported an equal number of citizens. The ambassador stressed that legal employment pathways through proper training remain vital for protecting workers abroad. He thanked Libyan interior and foreign ministry officials for enabling the program through bilateral coordination.
Embassy personnel are arranging departure logistics for 300 additional registered migrants from Tripoli and Misrata scheduled for October 30. The ambassador encouraged returnees to inform communities about trafficking dangers and irregular travel risks. He described each citizen as a national resource deserving protection and dignified treatment when circumstances require repatriation.
