309 Bangladeshis return home from Libya
A charter flight returned 309 Bangladeshi citizens from Libya to Dhaka on Friday morning with assistance from diplomatic and international relief organizations. The Bangladesh Embassy in Tripoli and the International Organization for Migration coordinated the evacuation after passengers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9 a.m. Many deportees entered Libya through smuggling networks while attempting illegal sea crossings to Europe. Officials from the foreign and expatriate welfare ministries said some victims faced kidnapping and physical abuse while stranded abroad.
Aid workers provided food, medical care, and travel funds to arriving passengers at the airport. Government representatives encouraged returnees to speak publicly about their ordeals to discourage dangerous migration attempts. Authorities continue working to extract additional Bangladeshi nationals from Libyan detention facilities. The Fly Oya International aircraft completed the repatriation mission with support from multiple government agencies.
