A report released on Wednesday revealed that 56% of employers in India plan to expand their workforce in the second half of FY26, while 27% intend to maintain stability and 17% expect rationalization. Large enterprises are driving most of the hiring, while smaller businesses are taking a cautious approach.
The e-commerce, tech start-ups, logistics, and retail sectors are leading the hiring surge, with employment increases projected at 11.3%, 10.8%, and 8.1%, respectively. Automotive, FMCG, and EV infrastructure sectors are also growing, supported by policy incentives and strong domestic demand.
Employers are increasingly adopting skill-driven strategies for hiring, with 61% focusing on performance-based approaches for entry-level roles. Communication, computer skills, and critical thinking are the most in-demand skills. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai are leading in hiring due to their concentration of tech and service industries.
