ADF militants kill 19 in brutal attack on DRC village

Rebel fighters tied to the Islamic State group killed at least 19 people in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, local officials said Monday. The Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), a group made up of former Ugandan rebels, raided Mukondo village in Lubero territory on Sunday, killing 19 people and setting homes and shops on fire. Alain Kiwewa, the local military administrator, reported the attack led to widespread displacement.

Sixteen civilians and one Congolese soldier were identified among the victims, with several people kidnapped by the attackers. Kambale Maboko, a local activist, said authorities had been warned but did not act in time. Despite joint operations with Ugandan troops, the violence persists, with more than 180 civilians killed in attacks since July.
