Ahmet Turk urges Turkey to align with peace process goals

Kurdish politician Ahmet Turk, from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), urged the Turkish government to take steps aligned with the peace process. In an interview, Turk rejected claims that PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan opposed the release of Selahattin Demirtaş, calling them “fabrications” meant to cause division among Kurds.

Turk praised Öcalan’s recent messages as a turning point, emphasizing that resolving Turkey’s Kurdish issue requires dialogue and patience. He expressed confidence that efforts to sabotage the peace process would fail and stressed that both the Kurdish people and the government need to show sincerity.

Criticizing the government for rejecting the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling for Demirtaş’s release, Turk urged transparency and credibility to restore public trust. He also highlighted that Öcalan’s physical freedom would positively contribute to Turkish democracy. Turk called for greater dialogue with Kurdish figures and actions that align with the peace process to avoid growing concerns among Kurds.
