Alice Capsey credits Ashes pain for England’s World Cup revival
Alice Capsey believes England’s unbeaten start at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is driven by the desire to bounce back from their Ashes whitewash earlier this year. After losing to Australia across all formats, the team underwent significant changes, including new leadership with Charlotte Edwards as head coach and Nat Sciver-Brunt replacing Heather Knight as captain.
Capsey said the Ashes loss was a turning point, offering the team a chance to reflect and rebuild. Since then, England has won all three World Cup matches, with Capsey noting the shift in the team’s mindset, marked by confidence and a strong sense of purpose.
Looking ahead, Capsey emphasized the team’s ability to thrive under pressure, with strong contributions from both the batting and bowling units. She also praised the team’s spin attack, led by Sophie Ecclestone, for its consistency.
England’s next challenge is against Pakistan, a team Capsey remains wary of despite their winless run.
