Allegations surface over Shibir-backed candidate’s admission at Rajshahi University
Allegations have emerged against SM Salman Sabbir, the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) candidate backed by Islami Chhatra Shibir in the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election. It is claimed that Sabbir was admitted under the ‘dependents’ quota despite not meeting the required 40 marks, securing only 32.5. Sabbir, however, declined to comment, dismissing the allegations as election-time propaganda.
This issue comes after last month’s student protests to abolish the dependents’ quota at Rajshahi University, which led to the postponement of the election. Critics have highlighted the contradiction in Shibir’s opposition to the quota system, while their own candidate allegedly benefited from it. Sabbir is contesting alongside other Shibir-backed candidates in the election.
