Ambassador Brian Stuart-Young steps down after decade of service in China

After more than a decade, Brian Stuart-Young is finally stepping down as Antigua and Barbuda’s man in Beijing. The announcement came from Prime Minister Gaston Browne at a farewell bash for the outgoing Chinese Ambassador, Zhang Yanling, at Weatherill’s Restaurant. Stuart-Young bragged about his “privilege” to serve the country he calls home. He even threw in a little nostalgia trip about reconnecting with China after his 1983 trip with Prime Minister V.C. Bird.

This ambassador stuck around for four Chinese leaders, helping seal deals like the St. John’s Harbor upgrade and housing projects. His crowning moment? Opening the embassy in Beijing in 2024—proof of his role in pushing the relationship forward. Hold your breath for his replacement—it’s coming soon!
