Apple unveils M5 SoC with advanced AI and GPU features
Apple has introduced the M5 system-on-a-chip (SoC), built with third-generation 3-nanometer technology. It features a 10-core CPU, with four high-performance and six efficiency cores, offering up to 15 percent faster multithreaded performance than the M4. The redesigned 10-core GPU includes a Neural Accelerator in every core, providing over four times the peak compute throughput of the M4 and enabling on-device AI workloads.
The M5’s 16-core Neural Engine improves machine learning and AI tasks, with enhancements in image generation, natural language processing, and spatial processing. Its unified memory architecture offers 153 GB/s bandwidth, enabling faster AI models and high-resolution graphics. The integrated media engine and ray-tracing capabilities improve 3D rendering and video encoding while maintaining energy efficiency.
