Ayushmann Khurrana calls ‘Thamma’ made for him
Ayushmann Khurrana has achieved his highest opening day box office collection with Thamma, which earned 25 crore rupees nett on its first day. The Bollywood star described the horror-comedy film as perfectly suited to his abilities because it allows him to break away from his typical boy-next-door roles.
The actor said Thamma gave him the chance to portray an alpha character skilled in action sequences, a role audiences have not seen him play before. He added that the movie explores the origin story of Betaal within the Maddock horror-comedy universe and represents a significant character transformation for him as a performer.
Aditya Sarpotdar directed the film for Maddock Films, releasing it on October 21, 2025, over the Diwali weekend. Khurrana plays a shy journalist who encounters a vampire-like creature, portrayed by Rashmika Mandanna, in a story blending romance and fantasy.
The success establishes Thamma as a potential franchise addition to the horror-comedy universe that features Stree, Bhediya, Munjya and Stree 2. The movie leans more toward romantic fantasy than traditional horror while maintaining connections to the established film series.
