Celine Dion installs panic buttons for sons’ support
Celine Dion relies on her 15-year-old twin sons as her primary caregivers after her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis worsened. The Canadian singer has installed emergency alert systems in her residence that Eddy and Nelson use to monitor her condition nightly. The twins learned proper positioning techniques to assist their mother when seizures cause severe muscle rigidity.
The 57-year-old performer told People magazine that she trained her sons to recognize crisis episodes and to activate panic buttons when needed. Dion received her diagnosis in 2022, six years after her husband, Rene Angelil, succumbed to throat cancer. The autoimmune neurological disorder triggers involuntary muscle stiffness and painful spasms throughout her body.
Representatives confirmed Dion will not appear at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest despite widespread speculation. The artist won the 1988 competition representing Switzerland with her performance of Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi. Medical experts attribute Stiff Person Syndrome to an autoimmune response that attacks nerve cells controlling movement.
