Bangladesh considers extending Hajj registration deadline after slow sign-up

As of Sunday’s midnight deadline, 43,374 people have registered for Hajj 2026, but this is less than a third of Bangladesh’s quota of 127,198 pilgrims. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is considering extending the registration deadline, pending approval from Saudi authorities. The Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh has requested an extension until November 5 to allow more people to sign up.

The 2026 Hajj is set for May 26, with preliminary registration starting on July 27. Full payment for the pilgrimage is due by December 31. Several Hajj packages have been announced by both the government and private agencies, ranging from Tk510,000 to Tk690,597.

Additionally, the government plans to refund Tk37.9 crore in unspent Hajj funds to 990 travel agencies.
