Bangladesh, Netherlands hold Sixth Foreign Office Consultations in The Hague

The Sixth Foreign Office Consultations between Bangladesh and the Netherlands were held on Thursday morning in The Hague. The discussions were led by Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam for Bangladesh and Secretary-General Christiaan Rebergen for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The consultations took place in a positive atmosphere of mutual respect, long-standing friendship, and shared values. Both delegations reviewed ongoing cooperation and identified opportunities for further engagement. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties in pursuit of peace and development.

The Bangladesh delegation thanked the Netherlands for supporting the interim government and its inclusive governance reforms. The Dutch side expressed continued support for Bangladesh’s democratic processes. Both sides discussed enhancing bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, sustainable energy, and water management.

They also reflected on the importance of the Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100 for the country’s sustainable future and explored areas of collaboration in education, vocational training, and digital transformation. Discussions also covered regional and global issues, including the peace process in Gaza and climate action.

The Bangladesh delegation expressed appreciation for the Netherlands’ support in addressing the Rohingya crisis, emphasizing the need for justice, accountability, and the safe return of the refugees to Myanmar. The two sides agreed to meet again in Dhaka next year.
