Bangladesh squad for West Indies series announced
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu explained the thinking behind Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies, focusing on a balance between experience and future planning.
Lipu mentioned the decision to omit Nahid Rana from the fast-bowling unit, preferring to keep it compact with four pacers from the previous series. On the batting side, he acknowledged the opening partnership’s struggles and brought back Soumya Sarkar for his experience, especially with Litton Das absent. Soumya’s past success against the West Indies made him a suitable choice.
Lipu also highlighted the inclusion of Mahidul Islam Ankon in the middle order, aimed at strengthening the lineup and building a strong squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup. He noted that Ankon’s addition provides more flexibility and depth, offering the management options to rotate players.
The series will start on October 18 in Mirpur, with the other matches scheduled for October 21 and 23.
