Bangladeshi duo scale Mera Peak
Two Bangladeshi mountaineers successfully scaled Mera Peak in Nepal’s Khumbu region, planting their national flag at the 6,476-meter summit. Imtiaz, a former military officer, and Dr Shahnaz, a dental professional, completed the ascent under the guidance of world-record-holding Sherpa climber Tashi Galjen Sherpa.
The climb represented Dr Shahnaz’s inaugural summit and her first expedition above 6,000 meters. She expressed determination to pursue additional mountaineering achievements for Bangladesh. The dentist had remained in Nepal following an unsuccessful attempt on Lobuche Peak alongside fellow climber Shamim Sabbir, who returned home after weather conditions prevented their original objective.
The Bangla Mountaineering and Trekking Club organized the expedition, marking the group’s 44th venture. Dr Shahnaz was joined by companions Imtiaz Elahi and Homayed Ishtiaq Moon for the successful Mera Peak climb.
