Barishal University punishes 25 students over clash

Barishal University suspended four students for six months and ordered 21 others to submit written pledges in the presence of their parents after a violent confrontation between academic departments. The altercation occurred on Sept. 12 at a campus athletic field when a soccer game between the Accounting and Information Systems and Marketing departments turned violent. University Proctor Rahat Hossain Faisal said the syndicate approved penalties on Oct. 11 and released the formal decision on Thursday. Two accounting students face semester-long expulsions, while two others may either serve a six-month ban from campus or pay fines of 20,000 to 40,000 taka.
