BNNRC hosts workshop on preventing technology-facilitated GBV
BNNRC conducted a training session in Pirojpur, bringing together 33 representatives from civil society and nongovernmental organizations to address technology-facilitated gender-based violence. The program received support from Switzerland and Global Affairs Canada through the Nagorikata Civic Engagement Fund, with GFA Consulting Group providing technical assistance.
Participants examined various aspects of digital abuse, including legal frameworks, prevention strategies and the responsibilities of community organizations in promoting safer online environments. BNNRC CEO AHM Bazlur Rahman presented detailed information about different forms of technology-enabled harassment and the role local groups can play in combating such behavior. Speakers emphasized that women and girls face disproportionate targeting, particularly students, while noting that men can also experience online violence.
Officials from the Department of Social Services and the Department of Women’s Affairs joined civil society leaders in committing to awareness campaigns across educational institutions and households. Attendees agreed to expand prevention efforts by engaging internet providers, cable operators and mobile financial service agents as stakeholders in creating accountability measures against digital harassment.
