BNP, Jamaat, NCP hold off on signing July National Charter

Several political parties, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party (NCP), have stated they will decide on signing the ‘July National Charter-2025’ after reviewing the final draft. The debate centers around when to hold the referendum to secure public approval. The BNP proposed holding the referendum alongside the national elections in February 2026, while Jamaat, NCP, and others argue for an earlier referendum to increase public engagement.

Jamaat’s Abdullah Mohammad Taher and Mia Golam Porwar said the party would decide after reviewing the charter’s details and timing of the referendum. NCP’s Jabed Rasin noted that the party has not yet received the final draft or implementation details. The NCC aims to complete the signing of the charter by October 16.
