BNP Jamaat wary of new RPO changes

Officials from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Jamaat-e-Islami voiced concerns after the government approved changes to election regulations on Thursday. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said his party would resist modifications to the Representation of the People Order. Ahmed argued that blocking smaller alliance members from using major party symbols would undermine coalition partnerships.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar criticized authorities for bypassing consultation with political organizations and citizens before advancing the amendments. He warned that specific parties might face challenges under the revised rules. The interim government backed the ordinance at an Advisory Council session led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus. Officials described the changes as reforms aimed at improving electoral transparency and oversight.
