BNP rally shifts focus to Kamruzzaman’s bid

A political gathering billed as a Bangladesh Nationalist Party reform campaign became a personal endorsement event for aspiring candidate Kamruzzaman Kamrul on Saturday afternoon in Sunamganj’s Jamalganj upazila. Supporters presented the former Tahirpur Upazila Parishad chairman with floral garlands and cash-adorned wreaths, while one activist handed him a check for 1 million taka to fund his election bid.

Kamruzzaman, previously a district BNP joint general secretary, told attendees he had never met the donor before receiving the check. He said the gesture demonstrated public backing for his hopes of being nominated in the Sunamganj-1 constituency.

The former official faces competition from six other nomination seekers. His rivals are Salma Nazir, Anisul Haque, Mahbubur Rahman, Hamidul Haque Afindi, and Abdul Motaleb Khan for the seat covering Tahirpur, Jamalganj, Dharmapasha, and Madhyanagar.

Several regional BNP officials attended the rally, which was led by Jamalganj Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Masum Mahmud Talukder.
