Shanto turns down Test captaincy offer from BCB
Bangladesh Cricket Board’s offer to reinstate Najmul Hossain Shanto as Test captain has been declined by the former skipper. Shanto stepped down from the position after the board removed him from the ODI captaincy and appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz in his place.
The board appears poised to name T20I captain Litton Das as the next Test leader and awaits his approval before the Ireland series in November. Miraz expressed interest in leading the Test side but faces uncertainty after his ODI captaincy performance disappointed officials.
BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul told reporters on Thursday, October 23, that no mandate exists requiring separate captains for each format. The board will finalize its decision at a meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 2.
Alternative candidates include Taijul Islam, who publicly stated his desire to captain the Test team, and Mominul Haque, who previously resigned from the role in May 2022 but remains open to returning.
