Simu Liu takes punches and kicks on new set
Simu Liu sustained multiple facial injuries while performing his stunts for the espionage thriller The Copenhagen Test. The Shang-Chi star plays a Chinese-American intelligence analyst trapped between his agency and mysterious hackers in the series.
Liu told People magazine he was kicked in the face repeatedly despite safety measures from stunt coordinators James and Chris Mark. The actor said accidents happen when filming fight sequences or high-speed hallway runs that involve crashing into multiple people.
The 36-year-old explained that actors who perform their stunts give editors more flexibility in post-production. When stunt doubles are used, certain camera angles fail to look convincing, limiting editing options.
Liu attributed his hands-on approach to his competitive nature. He said that since age 4, he has felt compelled to match or surpass others’ abilities whenever he sees someone accomplish something challenging.
