Borderlands 4 crushes M4 MacBook Air hopes

Borderlands 4 pushes visuals to a new level, but that power comes at a cost—top-tier hardware is required just to maintain playable framerates. In tests, even NVIDIA’s RTX 5090 struggles to hit 60FPS at native 4K, making it clear that lower-powered systems have little chance.

One Redditor attempted to run the game on an M4 MacBook Air using CrossOver and reported around 10FPS in combat and 20FPS indoors, likely at minimum settings. The MacBook Air’s lack of active cooling and modest GPU power contribute heavily to its poor performance.

Another user reached 60FPS on high settings, but only with an M4 Max and 48GB RAM—hardware far above the Air’s capabilities. For now, Borderlands 4 is better left to high-end systems, and the game’s optimization clearly needs work.
