Boyko Borisov may be questioned in Kiril Petkov’s abuse of power case
Former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov may face questioning in criminal proceedings examining alleged abuse of authority by Kiril Petkov during his tenure as government leader. Prosecutors are investigating whether Petkov exceeded his powers when ordering Borisov’s detention years earlier, with Deputy City Prosecutor Angel Kanev indicating that additional witnesses will likely testify during trial proceedings.
Kanev explained that investigators had not previously interviewed Borisov because parliamentary immunity protections were still in effect when officials initially sought his testimony. The prosecution maintains that Petkov violated established legal protocols in directing the GERB party leader’s arrest.
Petkov expressed confidence about the case outcome following a court session, asserting his actions broke no laws. The hearing was postponed until early next year after defense attorneys requested access to extensive pre-trial documentation.
