Brussels presses Sofia over Lukoil fallout
European Union officials asked Bulgaria to assess how American penalties against the Russian oil company Lukoil affect its refinery operations. Brussels sources told Bulgarian National Radio on Wednesday that the commission wants Sofia’s analysis quickly.
The commission tracks developments with member states and the International Energy Agency to measure how Washington’s restrictions influence European markets. Officials contacted several countries to obtain detailed reports on potential disruptions.
European nations maintain petroleum stockpiles covering at least 90 days under bloc regulations. The commission has not yet identified immediate supply problems from the sanctions.
Authorities can call an emergency session of the Oil Coordination Group if conditions require urgent consultation. The panel’s next scheduled meeting is on November 12.
