Tourism chief hails euro shift as boost

Bulgaria’s tourism sector is ready for euro adoption by January 1, Deputy Tourism Minister Irena Georgieva told officials in Varna on Wednesday. She addressed government representatives and business leaders at a regional meeting about currency transition preparations.

The industry regularly handles multiple currencies and understands the benefits, such as easier investment access and transparent partner transactions within the eurozone. Georgieva said operators expressed no worries about switching from the lev to Europe’s common currency.

Bulgarian travelers will benefit from the eliminated of conversion fees when paying abroad after the change takes effect. The deputy minister said the country aims to strengthen its reputation as a secure and accessible destination for international visitors.

Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and Bulgarian National Bank Chief Treasurer Stefan Tsvetkov attended the session with trade union leaders and defense officials.
