BSP vows no privatization of Sofia transport amid workers’ concerns

Ivan Takov, chairman of the Transport and Road Safety Committee in Sofia, reassured workers from the municipal company “Stolichne Autotrans” that no transport company in Sofia will be privatized or concessioned as long as the BSP has representatives in the Sofia Municipality. He addressed rumors about the privatization of the company, calling them unreasonable and confusing. Takov emphasized that the BSP’s commitment is to improve working conditions and salaries for employees in the transport sector.

He also highlighted that investments in both people and resources will continue and increase each year. The BSP municipal councilors will push for more funds in the 2026 budget to improve working conditions. Takov explained that recruiting enough drivers and improving conditions is a long-term effort, but they are committed to it.

Takov added that public transport in Sofia must remain managed by municipal companies, as private operators are not an alternative. Efforts are underway to bring new buses, repair contractors, and parts, with results expected soon for both workers and the citizens of Sofia.
