Plamen Dimitrov warns of budget crisis, urges urgent government action
Plamen Dimitrov, President of the CITUB, stressed the importance of a stable government, especially with the upcoming challenging budget. He urged those responsible to show how this will be achieved and called for any necessary cabinet changes to happen quickly to move forward. Dimitrov emphasized that the key issues are the budget and the financing of wages and pensions, which people are waiting to hear about.
He also mentioned political changes, expressing concern that early elections would not be positive. Dimitrov approved of the work done by the Consumer Protection Commission and hoped for sanctions on high markups by retail chains.
On the euro adoption, Dimitrov expressed optimism, saying it would benefit the country by improving income clarity, transparency, and financial management. He stressed the need for faster income growth to match rising prices and warned about a serious budget deficit for 2026. He argued that more tax revenues are needed, though he was skeptical about achieving this without increasing tax rates.
