Bulgaria and Turkey plug in for AI, tech boost
A senior Bulgarian official, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, met with Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacir, to explore enhanced collaboration. The discussions in Istanbul focused on increasing mutual investments in innovation, artificial intelligence, and scientific research.
The Deputy Prime Minister also participated in a roundtable on economic relations, where he emphasized the importance of attracting high-tech investments and encouraging youth to pursue engineering careers. During his visit, Donchev met with the leadership of Smart Holding, a key investor building a new solar panel factory in Elenino, Bulgaria, a project expected to generate more than 800 jobs.
Further talks involved potential partnerships between Sofia Tech Park and Technopark Istanbul. Donchev highlighted Bulgaria’s advanced technological infrastructure, including the upgraded Discoverer+ supercomputer and the development of the INSAIT institute. In a separate business forum, Deputy Minister Krasimir Yakimov presented Bulgaria’s progress in improving its business climate and developing its high-tech industrial zones.
