Bulgaria prioritizes energy security, partnerships at P-TEC forum
At the Sixth Meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) in Athens, Bulgarian Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov emphasized Bulgaria’s commitment to enhancing energy connectivity, diversification, and security. He highlighted the country’s strategic involvement in international gas projects, including the Southern Gas Corridor and Vertical Gas Corridor, which aim to diversify Europe’s energy sources and boost regional security, particularly for Ukraine and Moldova.
Minister Stankov also underscored Bulgaria’s growing partnership with the U.S. in high-tech energy sectors, notably the construction of new nuclear reactors at Kozloduy NPP with Westinghouse’s AP1000 technology. He further discussed the significance of expanding liquefied natural gas infrastructure, emphasizing Bulgaria’s role in ensuring stable energy supplies for the region. Additionally, he introduced plans for new solar projects and partnerships with international companies on emission-free energy technologies, while proposing that Bulgaria host the next P-TEC forum.
