CBI arrests Punjab DIG and associate in Rs 8 lakh bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a senior Indian Police Service officer, a 2009 batch DIG from Ropar Range, Punjab, and a private individual on Thursday in a bribery case involving Rs 8 lakh. The officer allegedly sought recurring illegal monthly payments for “settling” an FIR against the complainant and preventing further police action on his business.

The CBI set a trap and caught the middleman accepting Rs 8 lakh on behalf of the DIG in Chandigarh. A subsequent search of the officer’s premises uncovered around Rs 5 crore in cash, luxury items, jewelry, firearms, and other incriminating materials. The middleman also had Rs 21 lakh in cash. Both accused have been arrested and will appear in court on Friday. Investigations are ongoing.
