President Murmu calls for stronger voice for UN peacekeeping contributors
President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of giving stronger voices to countries that contribute troops to UN-led peacekeeping efforts. Speaking at the Army Chiefs’ Conclave for United Nations Troop Contributing Countries, she highlighted the need for more active engagement with local communities to nurture peace rather than just enforcing it.
India, as the largest democracy, is committed to multilateralism and UN principles, she said, and has been a steadfast contributor to peacekeeping missions worldwide. She also praised India’s progress in gender inclusion, noting that women peacekeepers have empowered communities and built trust.
The President expressed confidence that such gatherings will foster cooperation and new ideas, working toward a world where every child is safe, and communities thrive in harmony. She also acknowledged the courage and compassion of UN peacekeepers who serve in challenging global missions, helping to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable populations.
