Ceasefire holds at Afghanistan-Pakistan border after deadly clashes
A ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan held on Thursday after deadly cross-border clashes killed dozens of people. In Spin Boldak, which had been a hotspot for fighting, shops reopened and residents returned to their homes.
The 48-hour ceasefire was intended to allow time for dialogue and a possible solution, according to Pakistan. The violence, which was blamed on the Pakistani Taliban, had killed around 20 civilians and wounded nearly 170 on Wednesday.
The UN reported at least 18 civilians dead and over 350 injured. Pakistan has accused Afghanistan of harboring militants, while the Taliban denies the claim.
The ceasefire remained in effect on Thursday, with no violence reported overnight, but additional troops were deployed to prevent potential militant activity.
